Sportsbook SEO
Sportsbook SEO moves at the speed of the odds.
Odds change by the minute, event pages live for days, and the biggest search moments of the year are scheduled months in advance. Sports betting SEO is a freshness problem inside a compliance envelope - and the technical bar is higher than almost any other sector I work in.
I've worked sports betting SEO from both directions: ongoing content and SEO for SBC (Sports Betting Community), including the IGX brand, and via Blueclaw, migration strategy for a major UK bookmaker and log file analysis for a betting affiliate.
Event pages: rank before kick-off or not at all
A fixture page has a shelf life. It needs to be indexed, ranking and winning clicks before the event - after the whistle it's worthless, and next season's version needs the equity this season built. That's a URL strategy question (persistent event URLs versus dated ones), an internal linking question and a crawl scheduling question. Most sportsbooks get at least one of the three wrong.
Freshness versus crawl budget
Live odds and promotional churn mean thousands of URLs changing constantly. You need Google re-crawling the pages that matter fast, without letting thin, short-lived promotional URLs dilute the core product pages. Log file analysis is how you find out what Google actually crawls rather than what you assume it does - it's exactly the work I did for a betting affiliate.
The affiliate wall
Between an operator and its product terms - free bets, acca offers, "bet on" queries - sits a wall of affiliates with faster editorial operations than most operators can match. Beating them isn't about publishing more. It's product page authority, structured data and owning the brand-adjacent queries affiliates can't touch.
Jurisdiction shapes the map
A page that's legal in the UK may be restricted in the US, Australia or half the EU. Hreflang, geo-targeting and URL structure have to follow the licensing map, not just the search volume. Get that wrong and it isn't a rankings problem - it's a regulatory one.
The engagements
SBC (Sports Betting Community) - ongoing sports betting content and SEO, including the IGX brand. And via Blueclaw: migration strategy for a major UK bookmaker, and log file analysis for a betting affiliate. The casino side and the wider iGaming picture each have their own page.
Plenty of consultants have had a gambling client or two. A sports betting SEO expert is a different thing - the calendar, the compliance, the crawl. If your sportsbook or betting site isn't winning the terms it should, tell me what's going on and I'll give you an honest read.
